I'm shortly moving to Shropshire where i can't get cable but my telephone exchange is broadband enabled. I don't want to use BT so i need an ISP that is mac friendly and i also need a reccomendation for a modem, preferably one that connects via my ethernet port rather than USB as i have heard horror stories about them.
Thanks in advance.

...don't get a modem, get a modem router, is my best piece of advice.
As for provider, I use a small local company who I can abuse when (if) they f**k up by phone and get the same person, and at worst wander round and have it out face to face.
Otherwise I here Demon are alright, don't know about for macs though - shouldn't make a difference if you use a router though.

Nildram is the best, they are ranked the fastest and best by adslguide.org - as for an ethernet modem the only one I can find is by Dlink and costs £60. ebuyer.com

I use f2s.com (freedom to surf) - they are very good with their mac support. Nildram are faster, as stated above. F2s are the cheapest at £22.50 per month inc VAT.
I've not had any problems with f2s, they have been my ISP for nearly a year now.
As for a modem, I use a connexant am64 which also doubles as a 4 port 10/100 switch - retailing now for about £89 (see adslnation.com).
As mentioned aboive Adslguide is an excellent source for information, they also have a mac messageboard.

You might want to have a look at Macace ( www.macace.net) - they do adsl connections and are Mac only providers... small but perfectly formed I guess. They provide spot on documentation for both OS 9 and OS X - well it must be good cos my mother set up her own dial up on her new iMac which considering she's never used a computer before says something about the Mac and Macace instructions!
