No trick question, really!

Jaguar comes with two install discs. Are both required during the installation process? What do each contain?

Thanks -

Yes if you want to install the extra apps that aren't on the first disc, like iTunes, iMovie, Acrobat Reader...

Is there a reason why you don't want to use both discs? The answer, as far as I know, is yes. I needed both to install OS X on my TiBook. It takes about an hour to do the first disc, and then it asks you to put in the second to install "additional software."

We all know this is the only reason anyone asks this question. If they EVER had both disks (which they would if they had purchased it), they would see rather easily what is on the second disk. If they hadn't ever had both disks... then they didn't purchase it.

BTW, this question has been asked many times. Why do people not use search?

Who said anything about downloading any Mac OS 10.2 images?!

I simply erm.... eh.... want to.... find out whether or not they eh... are... ehhh... both necessary because... eh...I'm researching a project. Yeah that's right, I'm researching a project about how many discs are required for different operating systems

Seriously though, since I've got the coupons for the OSX.2 upgrade (from an iBook purchase just before 10.2 was shipped with systems), and since the £15 Apple charge to process my coupns is strcitly a "postage and package fee", surely my d/l it instead not only saves Apple the administration work of processing my order, but saves vital paper too. Save thetrees man...!

+ the fact that being in the middle of nowhere means it would take weeks to come and I could sooner download it on 56k.

I'm assuming there's an option somewhere to not install the additional software and only use disc 1, right?

No.

You do not need both cds. Especially when there are new versions of iPhoto/iMovie/etc..

I always install just cd 1, but you will need cd2 for printer drivers and extra fonts. The extra apps are not all that important--just iTunes, but downloading that is easier than putting in the second disc

If i were you, I would wait to download the iLife disc image instead.

Just kidding...

Anyway, thanks for the info mishap - I think we can safely put this thread away now.

Actually most of you are wrong.
If you do indeed have both disks from apple and you are installing it. All you have to do is hit cancel when they ask for the second disk. The Installer will then finish the install of disk one and you will have everything you need. I know this because I did it. I installed with the OS disk and it asked me for the second one and I said cancel and it said alrighty then I will just install the first disk.

And why are these things not on DVD nowadays?
