Hello, not sure if it matters he has to admins set up on his mac but many utilities wont open. Terminal, print center and a few others that I forgot (about five or six in all). They all appear as generic icons and a double click starts the app but it quickly quits automatically. Disk utility does open and we repaired the permissions but that didn't help anything.

Also, there are many files he is trying to get rid of but we can't change the permissions in the finder info window. You can change the owner just not the read/write stuff. The files he is trying to get rid of are just some mp3's and a few jpegs.

I tried booting him up from my techtool deluxe CD. It has both X and OS 9 versions but it booted in OS 9. I ran that but it froze in the middle of it's operations. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!

Hmm ... Why do I have a funny feeling that this person enabled root... Maybe not but It's a good bet...

Anyway...

1 - Boot with 10.2 CD
2 - Select menu: file or install? (I forget)
3 - Select disk utility (from that menu)
4 - Click the repair tab of Disk Utility
5 - Select the boot drive
6 - Click repair permisions
7 - Reboot

That sould fix a bunch of stuff... maybe not all of it but most of it...

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Not sure if he has root enabled. We can't open net info manager to see.

Sure two admins are fine to have and sometimes it makes for a great insurance policy in times when things go REALLY bad...
