Since i've recently installed X11 and Fink, I'm looking for some usefull/fun Fink packages.
I've only installed Xchat and Gimp so far and both run great. Any and all suggestions are welcome

Kword is actually pretty good. A pleasure to use, It would be my top choice if only it had the ability to export word format docs.

Actually, the best word processor available (IMHO) is latex. The learning curve is pretty steep, but you cannot beat its stability and consistency. No more fighting with tab sets, margins and font sizes throughout your paper -- everything is layed out as you specify in the preamble.
If latex seems a little too steep a curve for you, you might try LyX, a near WYSIWYG processor.
Finally, the two X11 apps that I just love are pan and gnumeric, gnome newsreader and spreadsheet respectively.

It would indeed be great if Apple chose KOffice as the base for its new AppleWorks-like integrated Office suite. KWord, in particular, being frame-based, could also be an interesting alternative for a new, basic iDTP (or maybe iPublish?) application.
I really hope Apple will continue to take the best and most advanced things from KDE - and make them even better, and finally share the results with the open source community, of course (see Konqueror + Safari)...

I love AbiWord, it is light and it does the few things i need. But if you are looking for a complete set of instruments for the office you should look at OpenOffice.
OpenOffice is at release 1.0 or so, i think it will grow rapidly.
Anyway, a not-so-common application i suggest is Xbill, a little and nice game )
