HOw can you get OS x 10.2 running its fastest. What can I just turn off? What settings should I minimize, maximize? Where do I start?

I do a lot of audio work. Visual aspects of a computer do not concern me.

I've read that ShadowKiller will help improve the responsiveness of your computer. I've never actually used it myself. It doesn't actually speed anything up, though, so if the computer is sitting there processing a chunk of audio, this haxie won't help you.

Maximize your RAM. Depending on your hardware, run in thousands or colors, not millions and use the small screen resolution possible.
Optimize your hard drive for a very small increase in performance, depending on several things.
Run TOP in terminal and look for any apps which may be hogging CPU and quit them if you are not using them.

I havn't noticed much improvment when using shadow killer and I found that the shadow acts a border to the window. A bit cconfusing when its gone, and I bet you've got a screen FULL of windows working with audio?

btw, what audio software are you using with osx and how are you finding it?
Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.

if you are using your mac as a standalone audio machine, ie not networking it, turn off the things in /Applications/Utilities/Directory Access. You won't need them if you aren't networking.
