I'm using apple's Mail application. I have my home computer using a pop .mac account (leave copy of message on server), and my laptop computer which I use at work and everywhere else I have it set up as IMAP. I prefer the POP account because it is much quicker than IMAP. Where it gets confusing is when I've SENT mail from each account. There is a record of it on one computer and not the other. Do I have to use IMAP on both computers or is there a way to sync the 2 computers so I can have the same information on each account?

Sorry if this isn't making any sense. I re-read it and even I get confused.

thanks,

lw

Yes, if you want access to your sent documents on both computers, you must use IMAP.

There is a way that you can do this.

Let's assume that you want to keep a copy of every sent message on your POP machine regardless of which computer you sent it from. When sending any note from your IMAP machine, bcc the message to yourself. On your POP machine, set up a rule in Mail that looks for a "cc" message sent to yourself AND a message "from" yourself. Yourself, in this case, is your own e-mail address. If both of the conditions are met, have Mail automatically file the message into your Sent mailbox.

Messages sent from your IMAP machine will probably get filed in the server's Sent folder as well. You might want to clear those out every once in a while to keep the server mailbox size in check. I use this procedure for almost the same purpose and it works.
