I'm connecting to the university network in the dorms using AirPort. For some reason, I am not able to transfer files using iChat on AirPort. However, when I plug directly into the network rather than using AirPort, I am able to transfer files with no problems. Is this a proxy issue or a firewall issue? I've tried opening ports for iChat using the built-in firewall . Any help would be appreciated 'cause my roommate and I share files back and forth using iChat. I also browse the local network in the dorms using SMB, but I can't do it through AirPort. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help much but I can iChat over airport between my G4 and TiBook. I have not changed and settings, it just worked
I don't have any firewalls turned on at all though.

You might have to turn on Airport to ethernet bridging under the Network tab in the Airport admin utillity for that.

I'm able to send/receive instant messages just fine. It's just that I'm not able to send/receive files via file transfer in iChat behind AirPort. I'll see what happens when I enable AirPort bridging over Ethernet like stated below. I appreciate the help.

For AIM file transfers to work, you have to port forward port 5190.
More than likely you have NAT routing turned on in the AirPort base station configuration. Either turn it off (and get an IP the way you do on your wired network), or add the port forward in the configuration.
