Is it only me or does Safari show www.wolfram.com in Japanese at you, too?

something pretty unreadable indeed. I guess it has to do with the fact that we are in a backward country, my fellow (for Apple, again, everything outside US & Canada is called a backward country)

It seems to depend on the user language. Obviously the wolfram server thinks that Germans (I guess it can't deliver a German version) can read Japanese better than English.

Edit:
Actually I think how the language is selected is a little bit complicated. There's the value how good the reader can understand a language (Safari seems to grab this from the user language setting), and there's the quality of the language version that the server can deliver. These two values are multiplied and the server delivers the language version with the highest score.
If it's a bug in Safari or a misconfiguration of the server I don't know.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I hardly understand. Anyway, sounds logical

But even if it is caused through server misconfiguration, I hope it is solved/changed, since in don't want to have to use a sub-optimal browser (everything other than Safari ) to read some sites.

What is your default text encoding in Safari? What is your main system language? These two are probably the key factors in how it determines what it shows you.

It showed Japanese for me. My main system language is Japanese and my default text encoding in Safari is Unicode.

Never changed the standard text encoding in Safari, so it is "default". My main system language is German.

Maybe the following URL will work better for you?
http://www.wolfram.com/index.en.html
I found this URL via a link in the bottom right corner of the page that andreas_g4 originally offered the link to...

As an aside, the URL as you gave brought up Japanese in my copy of Safari. That's no big surprise, though, as my system language is set to Japanese and my IP address is in Japan.

Maybe Wolfram did a time slip and thinks the Axis still exists?

It's very nice to see that you care about me

My problem is not that Safari shows the page in Japanese, since I have several other browsers on my harddisk.

Again, very nice...

I see. Now that you mention this and helped clear some of the fog from my sleepy head, I tried the original URL you gave in Chimera and in Netscape. Chimera showed the page in English, whereas Netscape 7.0.1 displayed Japanese. I think this shows that the problem does have something to do with language settings, either in the browser and/or the system, but also that it's not strictly a Safari bug.

Sure I saw it. I just don't understand those in the context:

As I said, it's a terrorist webpage.

I didn't know what else to put there

You don't have to speak Japanese to recognize the characters. I can't read a sound of either Arabic or Russian, and I haven't ever been taught anything about them, but I recognize them both when I see them.
