OK, I installed the developer tools, X11, the X11 SDK and fink.

Using finkcommander, I selected a couple of things to install. I was having trouble installing from within fink commander, so I chose the install from within terminal option.

the first thing I installed was "gnome games" It took a really long time, like overnight and seemed to be compiling, installing a checking a whole bunch of stuff.

launched x11 and tried to figure out how to launch these gnome games. I have no clue how to do this. There also didn't seem to be any way to add these to the applications menu selection list in x11 (which now just lists xterm)

OK, so I also added "gnome convience" package or something like that. It seems to have installed a bunch more stuff.

How do I launch these installed applications, assuming I have them installed?

Type their name in the X11 xterm.

example: for the sunclock app type: "sunclock" (without quotes)

Thanks. Is their a browser or file manager app of some kind that I can install to see what x11 apps are installed? That way I don't have to type in the name of every app (I am not sure even what the name of every game installed is).

Hello cesjr,

I am assuming that you have installed the other GNOME packages as well
in which case you will be able to run GNOME's launcher panel.

The X11 apps will either reside in /usr/X11R6/bin, /usr/local/bin or /sw/bin/
these will be on the path when you process the fink shell configuration file /sw/init.csh.

If you run 'gnome-panel&' from the xterm you will start up the GNOME panel.
On the panel you will get menus which contain all of your installed GNOME apps.

I suggest you take a look at www.gnome.org at some point and
have alook at the desktop overview and help documents.
