I've owned my powerbook for about 2 months now. At first I would turn it off frequently (once a day or so) but since I've come back to school I've left it on for about a week straight. Finally tonight I shut down, then remembered I forgot to check my schedual. When I turned it back on everthing was gone! Well not quite everything, my documents are still there and so are some apps that I've downloaded, but everything else, all my photos in iphoto, all my mp3's in itunes, all my contacts in my address book, and all my email is gone. When I open itunes the software licence pops up. The system thinks I haven't ever used it before. The stock config dock is back and so is the desktop. Everything is gone, is there anything I can do to get it back?
This is horrible! What's going on? Please help!

That is disturbing. A couple of thoughts:
1. Are the files actually gone, or could it be the applications' preferences are just blinked so that they don't remember where the files they're supposed to be reading are? Because corrupted pref files seem to be pretty much the #1 cause of trouble in OS X.
2. I had something a lot like this once. It was caused by a nearly fatal error in the file system. If you have Norton or something like that, you might want to pop it in and see if it finds any major errors.

iTunes and my system prefrences reset on me the next time i start my computer after i've turned off my computer and didnt realized that i ran out of space. Try clearing up some space and re-doing all your preferences.

I am with Chuckit. I suggest you to check if the files are actually gone or your apps are reluctant to show them.
If the files are gone, Disk Warrior is your best bet IMHO.

Running out of Diskspace has hosed my mail, and iTunes in the past.

Either he logged in as a different user, or his ~/Library folder has been hosed somehow. That's where all user prefs, iTunes music info and e-mail is stored.
