I have a mixed network at home with 4 Pc's and one Mac. I have a domain setup runnng w2k server and 4 workstations running xp pro. My mac is running OS 10.2.3.

I cannot reliably get sharing working on my mac (in fact I have only managed to get it up for a few minutes at a time) with any of my pcs (the ability to share or even see or login to the pcs goes on and off) today I noticed that file sharing check box in system preferences will not stay on. Each time I check it and turn windows sharing on it somehow unchecks itself and then turns itself off.

Is there a way to get a mac to join a win2000 domain?

If not what is the best way to share files between my machines?

I have a Time Warner Road Runner cable connection going into a 12 port switch. I am using DHCP to get IPs from roadrunner for all of my machines including my 2k server. I have a the 2k server setup so that I use to fileshare with my PCs (I also had difficulty getting the pcs setup for some reason however once I got them to join the domain things have been working much better)

I can always ping the machines from the command line so it is not a connection issue. I have also formatted the the workstations using the default settings.

I am new to mac networking and any help would be appreciated

Thank You

Also when I ping mymac01 from a pc on my network it shows up as mymac01.mydomain.com and it does not ping to my macs IP but rather the 2k servers ip.

Not exactly sure what that means but it does not seem normal

Sounds like you have two machines with the same IP address.

No each machine has thier own IP. I think it has something to do with my domain as when it resolves the name it shows up as mymac01.mydomain.com with the same IP as the 2k server. This happens when I try and resolve any computer name on my network.

I think it may be a dns issue of some sort as I have a cable provider with its own dns servers as well as a dns server of my own. I think that each machine is resolving names though my isps dns and not my 2k server.

I am not exactly sure as I am still very new to this stuff (both on the os x side and the 2k side)

On my mac I get ips for all my machines that show up as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.nyc.rr.com instead of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.mydomain.com is there a way to fix this?
