get to the /etc/ directory

Even when I'm logged in as the 'root' I can't get to the /etc/ directory.

and, how can I make 'me' into the root user within OSX?

What am I doing wrong?

In the finder:
Go to the "Go to" menu and select "go to folder..." (shift command g) and type /etc into the text field.
A finder opens /etc in a new finder window.

In the terminal:

cd /etc

Both way work for me as admin.

You don't. When you need root in the GUI, a dialog pops up asking for an admin password. When you're in the Terminal, you can use sudo to similar effect.

You do not need root access permanently enabled. In fact, you risk seriously damaging your system if you decide to try it. What you want can be done; I won't lie about that. But I'm not saying how.
