Has anyone else noticed that the Radeon 9000 is a little... "kinky" with OS X? not only does it require you to run at millions of colors for maximum performance, but it also doesn't seem to accelerate the iTunes visuals if their simply in the itunes window (they are accelerated in full screen mode however). Has anyone else knoticed this?

iTunes visuals have nothing to do with Quartz Extreme.

You sure? What about the "Use OpenGL" option? When i turn that on in fullscreen mode it makes a huge difference, but in window mode it does nothing.

I believe QE in general requires you to use Millions of Colors for it to kick in?

Quartz Extreme works fine in Thousands of colors. As for the "millions to get best performance", beats me, where did you hear this from? Is this only for OpenGL or overall? And why is that bad? Finally, iTunes visuals have nothing to do with Quartz Extreme. I don't know if they are ever accelerated when they run in the iTunes window instead of full screen, but I have yet to see a Mac where this is the case.

OpenGL acceleration is different from Quartz Extreme. Games have had OpenGL acceleration for many years now, the only thing new with QE is accelerating Quartz compositing. As for why it doesn't work in a window, I have no clue. Maybe QE is using all your vram.

Well do you have the same card as I? Because with millions of colors with the Radeon I itunes visuals with distinct differences in color shades (like instead of the colors being smooth, the shades change drastically). Plus the frame rate goes down with millions of colors. This never happened when I had the gForce4 MX.

Using less colors will get you less smooth color gradations.

Using more colors will make things slower but will have smoother color gradations.

It's fact.
