I bought a dvd video today and attempted to play it with the Mac OS X DVD player. When I attempt to play it, it goes though the title screens, but then goes black and does NOTHING!!!!

If I try to get to the menu it says "not permited". I thought maybe it was a problem with the DVD so I tried another I had, and it did the SAME THING!!!

What would be causing this? How can I fix it????

Not that I have any idea what the specific problem is, but the first thing to try with DVD issues is to trash the dvd player's preferences.

You might want to try Video Lan Client (VLC) to see if the problem is a compatibility with Apple's DVD Player. VLC has a menu option to "Open Disc" and it will play DVDs full screen (as well as MPEG and DivX). If the disc still doesn't play with VLC than it may be a compatibility issue with your DVD drive - perhaps a different region# or maybe just a disc it can't read.

One odd thing I recently noticed is that Apple's DVD player would refuse to play a DVD-RW video I made. But it did play DVD-R videos just fine......joe
