I searched for this before posting because I figured someone would have posted it already, but found nothing, so here it is!

Have you ever tried holding the shift key while clicking the minimize button on a window using the genie effect? It slows the effect waaaay down. Kinda neat to look at and show people, but I imagine it would get annoying if it was that slow all the time. I wonder if there is a parameter you can adjust via the Terminal to effect this speed under normal use... Anyways, somthing new to brag about in OS X.

Give it a try!

That *is* neat. It really shows the power of the G4 and Quartz.

Yeah, I remember when Steve showed this in the original presentation of OS X. I stumbled upon that shift button thing on some website short after, and it was pretty cool that they built this demo thing into the OS.

The question is, is there a setting to adjust the speed overall? I'm not in a big hurry, I'd like to have my effect slowed just a little bit.

On some of the new powerbooks there is always the "Reduce Processor Performance" button in the Energy Saver prefs :-)

Other than that, I don't think so though.

I wish there was a slider in the dock preference panel that allowed me to speed it up so fast that it's immediately in the dock once minimized, or so I could slow it down to the speed acheived now by holding down the shift key.

that would be good.

I think I remember someone told me that you can slow down the Genie Effect even more by hold Shift and Option (or control or command key... not sure)

Maybe I'm wrong

I think it'd be even better to have an option to have the window just appear in the dock, but still with eye candy, just nothing outside the dock.

urm - works beautifully on G3 machines as well, especially QE-enabled ones..
