I think the i monikor should be used exclusively with iLife apps to symbolize the integration between the 4 apps. What do you think?

I think it's unappropriate to name these apps with i's, and additionally, shouldn't be brushed metal:

iChat
iSync
iCal

I think it's an appropriate line for both Brush metal and the i naming scheme - just for iApps.
In vino veritas.

I agre. I suppose in a sense, those apps are more appropriately named than the iLife apps. The 'i' originally stood for internet, as in iMac, but what do iMovie, iPhoto or iDVD have to do with the internet?

In any case, I think 'iCal' should be 'Calendar' and 'iSync' should be 'Sync'. iCal is about the worst name I've ever heard. There's something iconic about calling an app 'Mail' or 'Notepad' or 'Calendar'. But 'iCal' sounds like a calories counter.

iMovie allows you to put your movies on the your .Mac or over the internet. same with iPhoto. It allows you to email them or post somewhere on a website. So those 2 are okay. iDVD not sure.

fact is the combination of iCal and iSync are part of the digital hub. So I wouldn't like it to be.

I want to shoot Steve or whoever was genius enough to come up with the name iCal.

I agree that iLife apps should be brushed metal with the rest being normal Aqua interfaces.

It's a tough call. I think they screwed up somewhere along the way trying to name things related to the digital hub as iApps. I think they should cut bait and rename things in the following way:

Basic everyday utility apps:
Mail
Address Book
Chat
Calendar
Sync
Safari (they can't really call this one Browser can they?)
Sherlock

Digital media apps (iLife):
iTunes
iMovie
iPhoto
iDVD

The 'basic pedestrian' apps should have basic, pedestrian names. The digital media apps should be called iLife and have iNames. They are all part of the digital hub in one way or another, but the category split outlined above makes much more sense.

They should also group these apps this way by default once they give us mulitple docks. I basically grouped things this way when I got dock separators and it makes finding things in my dock much easier. Categories are good.
