Aliases of my hard disks and partitions get created without my input, using 10.2.3 Why would it do this, can I stop it, any reason not to trash them? Thanks...Peter

" Where are these aliases?"
When I view my computer, within the partition or disk, is a series of images with that curved arrow that appear as data within the disk.

The only thing I can think of is that when a remote volume is mounted, Finder opens a window titled "Volumes" or something like that which contains aliases to the local volumes. innerimager, does this sound familiar?

First, you need someplace to host the images so others can access them across the Internet.
Second, you post a message and click on the "Image" button to enter the URL of the image you want posted.

Yes - that's the Volumes Directory.
It pops up (in 10.2) when you connect a new remote volume manually.
It's quite annoying (and intentional) that it pops up.
You should not delete the aliases - as they are needed for your system to run properly.
They best way not to see them is to connect to remote volumes using aliases to those volumes (or to a directory within those vols.) - rather than using Command-K (in the Finder.)
This stops them appearing. (and it's quicker than manually connecting.)

Actually, you can stop them from appearing by NOT using a trailing / when you mount a remote server.

Well- trhe only way I'm "connecting" to these drives, which include partitions on my internal, is to turn the computer on, or plug in the firewire drive. So how do I avoid seeing them? Oh, this is a screen shot that includes them......[url]http://www.pbase.com/image/11969074/original

I get this phenomenon too, they appear out of nowhere..Usually aliases of my partitions. The Finder needs to be relaunced often I find. When the Finder doesn't let me "open
with" I relaunch the Finder and it fixes the problem. One of my buddy's gets them too.. think its a bug.
I never connect to servers..just use DSL for internet.
