I've been using Safari to go to CNN.com to get updates on the shuttle disaster and found it odd that the site hadn't seemed to update for hours... I have a Hotmail account that doesn't work with Safari so I booted up Internet Explorer, and when it loaded the default page of CNN.com, there was a much more updated page with more recent news, etc.
I couldn't understand how this could be, but I've been testing it all day, opening both programs and going to CNN.com, and sure enough, the page I'd get through IE would change many times throughout the day, whereas the one I'd get through Safari only changed once. I have no idea how this is possible... any ideas? Is Microsoft locking out other browsers from getting updated pages that only IE can load? Is it a beta problem with Safari? Bizarre...

Yes... thatīs why Safari has the Bug button!

My issue with Hotmail and Safari was fixed by deleting the cookie out for msn and hotmail under preferences. now hotmail works fine with safari.

In my experience IE is the worst to update its cache. Safari seems to update the site/cache content corectly when refreshing in my experience. Strange..

You're all exactly right about the cache... when I emptied the cache and reloaded CNN.com, I got the updated page... it's bizarre that it references the cached page even after the program has been shut down and restarted, but I've only found it happen with CNN, and it is, after all, a beta...

I've found this behaviour with several browsers and also IE under Windows. The simplest solution is to hit command-R (Reload) and it'll download a 'fresh' copy from the server rather than relying on the cached file.
cheers Ry
