I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but turning the Appearance prefence in iPhoto 2 to "No Border" makes a huge difference in zooming and scrolling speed. This is particularly obvious when you have a large library.

I've seen a big improvement on both my Powermac 867 MHz and my iBook 800. I also tried it during a recent trip to the Apple store on several machines. All showed a noticable improvement.

It certainly won't solve all of iPhoto's performance issues, but it made the program a lot more usuable for me.

Cheers,
John

W@W!!! iPhoto is quick now on my G4 400,
this is a great tip, I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned before.

This should silence those critics saying iPhoto is sluggish.

Someone asked about iMovie 3, well I noticed that when viewing pics in iMovie 3 it still shows them with the drop-shadow, does anyone know if this could be set to "no border" via a plist file or something?

If so that may give iMovie 3 a little boost.
