OK, I'm a moron.

I recently reformatted my iBook drive under OS X, without support for OS 9 drivers. That was mistake #1. So I had to create a (minimal) OS 9 disk image on another computer, and copy it to the iBook so I could run Classic. Potential mistake #2. Tonight, I needed to boot into Classic, so I selected the Classic system folder via the Startup Disk preference pane, and rebooted. Worked fine, and started booting into 9 until...oops! The system folder I created as mentoned earlier is no good for booting! Damn it!

So I booted from the OS 9 CD, but the Startup Disk control panel there can't see that the hard drive exists (no OS 9 drivers, remember?).

So I tried booting from a 10.2 CD. No luck; I just get the installer with no way to access the Startup Disk preference pane.

Can anyone tell me how to boot from OS X off of the hard drive again? When I boot holding down Option, I only see the OS 9 system folder on the hard drive...

Thanks,
Matthew

'X' forces the computer to boot into a valid OS X System folder I believe.

But if both Systems are on 1 disk this dosent do any good, some times it only sees the 'Classic' system on the disk sometimes it sees the OSX install. Some OS9 Startup CD's don't show up as startup volumes ether (the System restore CD I got with my Quicksilver for example).

Option only shows valid startup disks. If you have classic and X on the same partition it will only show the default (whatever was selected in the Startup Disk control panel). If you have X and 9 on separate partitions or different hard drives holding down option will work beautifully. Holding option is also useful for booting from cds.
