Just bought the Sony P101 DV camera. Am planning to shoot a few movies and burn them to DVD's for the family back home in Oz.
One other thing that I want to be able to do is video conference. Can I use this all singing all dancing camera to do this from my Mac, or do I have to invest in an iBot or something?
Anybody else managed to video conference with a DV camera under OS X?
If so, what software do you recommend.
Thanks in advance,
Jordan

I have a Sony PC100 DV cam which works fine as a web cam.
Whichever software you use you just select the camera in the video preferences, you can use the sound from the camera as well.

Yes, it will probably work. I have a Canon ZR40. I have successfully used it as a webcam with the latest yahoo messenger software under OSX. The only downside is that voice chatting only works on windows for now.
To make this work on my camera, I have to take the tape out, turn the camera on in camera mode, and start the webcam software on yahoo messenger. That is all... it works like a charm.

I'll have to try that when I get home... It drove me nuts the first day!!!
Yahoo is nice. I hope iChat has those options soon... but who knows if AIM will jump on board with that or not...

Squid Cam from http://www.squidsoft.com also supports some firewire cameras, including my 2 yr old Sony Hi 8 camcorder. The only drawback is that both users have to have the squid cam software.

I've never been able to get Yahoo Messanger to work with my Canon GL-1. It displays the image for only a fraction of a second and then just a black screen. We initially thought it was a firewall problem. Yet, I bypassed my router and disabled the Mac OS X firewall, and it still didn't work. Others have had success, though.
I wonder if my problem has to do with AT&T broadband setting up some sort of block on that port.
If anyone has any thoughts on why this doesn't work, let me know
