Can someone recommend a good OS X equivalent to SoundEdit 16, or something for basic sound editing and processing (EQ, effects, etc), possibly?

You can try Sound Studio. Very similar to SoundEdit. Otherwise you can try Peak.

Sound studio is pretty cool, Peak is better, but more expensive and over powered if you only want to do some basic sound editing...

You can also try the Spark family from TC Works...
Spark ME is free
Spark LE can be had for $19.95
Spark XL , the big daddy is also avail if you want the high end.

I use Spark LE quite a bit and its done the job pretty well.

Another free one (open-source too) is Audacity, now at version 1.0 (OS 9 & X)

If you're willing to go back to OS 9, there's a free version of ProTools as well.

I've looked at the site for a list of features, etc. What's the difference between ME/LE/XL, besides cost I mean-- is ME just a demo of LE or something? Are features disabled, etc?
