Hi. I recentley bought a used Mac thats running 10.2.2 (i know I need to upgrade) but it didnt come with the Jaguar CDs. So, tomorrow or the next day, Im going to buy a copy of Jaguar just in case I need it. But, do I need a copy of OS9 or anything to install OSX? Or if I have to reformat, can I just boot from the CD, wipe out the hard drive, and put X on? Thanks.

Also, is it possible to convert from UFS to HFS+ without losing any data? Or is reformatting the only way?

1) OS 9 is not required unless you plan on using classic for anything.

2) Booting from the OS X cd will allow you to erase the drive and install a fresh copy of the System.

3) Only way to convert is to reformat.

Just upgrade via Software Update Preference Panel.

No need to re-install Jag, though having a copy would be good in case your current install goes south at some point in the future. OS 9 does not come with Jag when you buy it.

Your drive is probably already hfs+, as I don't think X will run on stasndard hfs. Though I could be wrong about that.

U, H, what's the diff? So I'm blind-- sue me.

Borrow a firewire drive, if you can, and Carbon Copy clone your OS to it, then use Disk Uility from the Firewire install to re-format your drive, then clone it back.
