New patch to let users without a superdrive launch iDVD3. This does not enable iDVD3 to use external dvd writers.

How To
Install iDVD3, by extracting from pacifist, then replace idvd.app/contents/macos/idvd
with the new iDVD patch file.

Not that I am unappreciative, but as an owner of an external FW Pioneer 105, what does this do for me?
I am guessing that maybe I can edit and use Toast?

This patch will let you open and design DVDs with iDVD3 (which you can't do unless you have a built in superdrive). You can then save your creation as a iDVD project and transfer it to a machine with an internal superdrive for burning.

Nope sorry thats not possible because iDVD can not export DVD files ready for burning in toast. It only lets you save in iDVD project format.

can you really transfer the saved ".dvdproj" to another machine and burn it? i thought it mapped to other files it needed (.movs, .mp3s) so that the .dvdproj couldn't be moved and still work (i.e. not all the needed data was in the *.dvdproj file). is that true, or am i wrong?

I don't know what files it would need, but you could use your mac in firewire target mode (easier if you have an iBook or Powerbook) and have all the files you need.

I'll have to try that tomorrow...
P.S. Shouldn't this be in the other forum?

Yeh it should be in software but I don't see anyone complaining.

I had posted that it works on a G3 machine but it doesn't.
iDVD will now launch but crashes when you try to open a project.
