ok, installed a few things, and now my keymap is all messed up. here is what i installed:

x11 sdk
fink
fink commender
various packages from fink

now, when im in OS X, my keymap is all messed up.

if im in x11, everything is fine and works as expected. wtf has happened to my system.

good thing my production machine is still os9. -whew-

Are you sure your keyboard layout is set appropriately? The last menu on your menubar (before the menu items on the right end) may be a small flag. If it's there, make sure that's the appropriate one. You might have accidentally changed it, but the flag will be a menu you can use to change it back.

You might also check the International panel in System Preferences.

all is correct in the keyboard/international settings. its weired that everything works fine in X11, but not is normal OS X. i made a new user to see if it was just a corrupt pref. No go. same thing happened.

Fink X11 (Darwin X11) installs a new keymap for X11 to work properly. I'd say it ****k'd something up, not OS X. But, I guess saying OS X did it gets your thread more attention than the truth.

That is not a very big suprise to me. Because when I launch OS9 under OSX, Adobe products start to losae their shortcut keys (after about 6hrs to 1 day). Also the desktop will eventually (after like a day or two) start to misbehave, e.g. Icons will start to shift and others you won't be able to select!!
