OSX newbie here. I've been running 10.2.3 on an eMac for a couple of months with only minor issues and irritations.
Recently, when starting the emac in OSX, the startup process has included a failed attempt to launch an OS9 window. OSX boots normally, then gets 'stuck' in trying to open a classic window. I have to cancel this window for the startup process to finalize.
I have no idea why the classic window starts up this way. The 'startup disk' is set to OSX. Might anyone offer a suggestion as to why the OS9 window opens at startup? I have no OS9 apps of which I'm aware running in the background. What gives?

Check your login items, you might have something stuck there thats an OS 9 only app.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll try to educate myself on the (personally vague) concept of 'login items' when I get home to my eMac.

Sorry System Prefs-->Login Items. From there you can choose what you want to start up when you login to your desktop. Sometimes items get placed there after installing software and then cause problems like the one you're having. If thats not the case, post back what app is causing classic to start up (or try to anyway).

Also check System Prefs > Classic.
There's a radio button on the classic Pref Pane for "Start Classic when you log in."
If classic is seizing up on you, it's probably due to an extension set problem.
You may need to pare down your extensions to get Classic to run properly. I have 2 extension sets, one for booting 9 and one for running classic.

if it isn't a login item, uncheck the "start classic when you log in" option in the classic preference panel. (this picture shows an old version of the panel.)

Thanks again guys. The start classic at startup box in the classic control panel was checked for some unknown reason.
Thanks for helping a Jaguar newbie. I'll do some poking around so I don't miss the obvious ones!
