I know that the new PBG4 17's come with OSX 10.2.4. I am not sure but I think this might include the firmware that enables the Matshita optical drive to burn DVD-R at 2X rather than my 1ghz ti-book's 1x speed.

All of us gig-ti superdirve users are waiting to see if this will open up the drive's ability.

The 8X Cd burn speed is fine for me, very reliable too. The 1x speed on DVD's is well...painfully slow at times.

I heard Apple changed the specs on the 17" AluBook to 1x on the DVD-R....

Can anybody confirm this?

All you need to do is look at www.apple.com it says 1x

hi gorickey, ive read that somewhere to but cant think of where, if i can find some links ill post them. but yes from what i read apple changed the specs for the 17" ALPB from 2x dvd burning to 1x burning. ok found a link from apple http://www.apple.com/powerbook/index17.html scroll down and look at the "legendary superdrive" paragraph.
