It has iPhoto which is more flexible and better for most image formats. iTunes for audio too. You will have to keep your text clippings separate though.
I noticed too but got over it quickly since MacOsX is more flexible and stable than 9, 8, 7, 6 ever was. (I have used them all).
You will also have a problem with your QD3D models. (did anyone use that feature?)

I agree, X sucks. Without the Multi-Finder I can only run one app a time.

Did anyone ever use the Scrapbook? Like ever?
The chooser sucked rocks btw. What WAS the chooser anyway? The thingy where you selected what printer you wanted to use... no wait it was the thingy where you selected waht computer to connect to...

I rarely used the Scrapbook, but when I did it was very useful. I copied text clippings from the internet, email, Word, for later use.
It made things much quicker for me!!
The Chooser is a great app, but I dont miss it much.
I love the way OSX handles SCSI, it is amazing. I plugged in a Bernulli (remember those?) I was able to mount EVERYTHING without a hickup!
I wish if Keychain worked with Windows Networks.
I wish there was a Network automount similar to OS9's
I do not like the fact that there are 1,000,000 locations for fonts in OSX.
I do not like the fact that if you double click a font, it does not show you a preview (like in OS9 or Windows)
I dont like the fact that you cannot rename/move/remove files within the open/save dialogs.
I dont like the fact that when you select a file in the open dialog (a large PDF file) the computer has to wait for the preview to build (Acrobat should automatically create a preview icon upon saving)
I dont think OSX sucks, I think it is the best, and will become MUCH better or mature in the near future.
P.S. Thanx for the Fora MacNN, it is a great place to learn, teach, and unload. But could you PLEASE fix it...

Why don't you try one of the jillion utilities that can do this for you, probably a lot better than Scrapbook? Go to http://www.versiontracker.com/ and search for 'clipboard' for starters.

There is. Lots of ways to do it. One simple way is to make alias(es) to the server(s) you want mounted, and then add them to your Login Items in System Preferences.
I do not like the fact that there are 1,000,000 locations for fonts in OSX.
There aren't. There are:
/System/Library/Fonts - reserved for OS, so doesn't even concern you
/Library/Fonts - fonts accessible to everyone on the machine
~/Library/Fonts - fonts accesible only to you
Technically, /Network/Library/Fonts - if you're not on a mananged NetInfo network, this also doesn't apply to you
/System Folder/Fonts - with classic, a necessary evil
Remember, Mac OS X isn't Mac OS 9. Don't treat it that way.

I always did thin the Scrapbook was kind of neat. However, someone made a superior replacement back in those days, known as ScrapIt Pro. I don't think it ever got ported.
Theoretically, one could leverage QuickTime to create something like that again, though.
And there are not a million different locations for fonts in OSX. There are three). And they make a lot of sense. /Library/Fonts is there for fonts available to the whole machine. ~/Library/Fonts is there for fonts available to a specific user. Classic's Fonts folder is just there for people migrating. /System/Fonts doesn't count because you're not supposed to change it, and /Network/Fonts doesn't count because no one uses it anyway.

I hate it how they took out Graphic Calculator.
The ability to instantly differentiate *any* equation was great.

Unfortunately, Graphing Calculator was never Apple's to begin with. They had a deal with Pacific Tech to distribute a demo of their NuCalc program with the Mac OS, as the Graphing Calculator we all know and love.
Pacific Tech isn't going to be Carbonizing the app. It relies too heavily on QuickDraw3D, which is no longer a part of OSX (though I wonder if Quesa might be compatible), and the sales of the "pro" version never covered the cost of development even on the Windows port, much less the original Mac port.

Also, programs will read a font if you drop it in one of the folders without having to restart the app or the machine. You can also oragnize fonts into groups, which is a large part of ATM's old functionality....HUGE timesaver.

I liked the one-location for all fonts in OS9. You only need to go to one place to see what fonts you have.
Font management in OSX sucks. I bought Suitcase AND FontReserve. They are both sloow as heck and they both suck, FontReserve sucks less. They try to do so much crap, they install plugins in Indesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator and they automatically open fonts for you!! I have 5 different Helveticas! The OS9 versions work better, they do the same wacky things but they work better.
I know.. I already removed the plugins and made the whole thing more manual but FontReserve is still sloow and it still acts-up, you open a font, it opens in one app but not the other, I even restart that app, and the font is still not there!! it was there yesterday, after a few on/off/on trials the font opens!! Hurray!! And, no I did not have both apps installed on the same system.
I will never go back to OS9, or to Windows, OSX is Waaaay better than OS9 and Windows, but font handelling in OS9 is better than OSX and Windows.
Now I manage my fonts manually.
P.S. Thanx for the leads for an OSX ScrapBook, I will check em out

I'm using Suitcase and it is working fine in 10.2. What kind of problems did you have?
Apple really does need to get Helvetica out of the system and use something else or at least rename it something else. Maybe add System to all the system font names.

That's easy for an AFP share, just make an alias of it when it is mounted and drag it to the log-in items. Works like a charm for me to automount Win 2k shares.
I don't know if that works for SMB mounts though.

Aliases of AFP shares from older servers don't save your username and password, and you can't alias the root level of a hard drive.

I can alias the root level of a hard drive. I just command-option drag the image of the drive that's sitting on my desktop.
