On my PowerBook, I turn on "Personal File Sharing", but I find that I come back at some point later (maybe after a sleep) and it's not back on. Do I really have to go all the way in there to turn it on all the time? I can shut down my desktop and it remembers the settings. Thanks for the thoughts!

I'm having the same problem on one of the desktop machines in the studio I work for, only it doesn't seem to happen on sleep, just reboot.

Meanwhile, my powerbook (and the studio's other desktops) all retain the preferences indefinately, as they should.

measures I've tried:
- repairing permissions
- logging in as the main admin account, upgrading the user account to admin status, creating new accounts, etc.
- locking preferences Pane
- unlocking preferences Pane
- deleting com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
- zapping PRAM

All to no avail. I'll keep you posted on any further developments...

Hey... your username rang a bell, and I noticed in your profile that you work for a company from Bloomington IN... did you go to IU? Or more specifically... were you an apple rep at IU, and take a digital art class back in oh... say, 98?

It looks like you tried all the major items and I don't know what to tell you. For me, this ended up being fixed with an OS update. I assume that a component was replaced that just happened to fix the preference issue. So, should you not be on the latest version of X, see if updating helps. Otherwise, perhaps someone will respond this time.

Indeed, I am running 10.2.6 on said machine.

The only other potetial culprit: on all machines, I am running the share points preference Pane... but it's not causing problems anywhere else...

Once I'm updated beyond the version of my iinstall CD's, any kind of simple restore is pretty much impossible, right? I'd have to do a full archive and install...

I also wondered if any kind of direct manipulation of priviledges on the prefs file would be in line...

On the machine that had this problem for me, I only had the whole machine shared (well, I guess my user was shared sep. as well), so I doubt that is a factor.

The full archive and install would likely be your best bet, but that is of course not much fun. Also, since it attempts to keep many of your prefs, you might still have the probem.

Do any other people have this problem or know the solution?
