Have already read at least two threads on USB printer sharing. It either "sucks" or "works great for me", what I don't see is whether anyone knows if you can share a USB printer across two different subnets. For example, 128.120.45.x and 140.101.30.x. Any guesses out there???

PS I cannot easily change the IPs of the machines, corporate network admins 'ran out' of addresses so now they're issuing new ones as different from one another as in my example.

I addressed this in one of the recent threads.

I think Rendezvous chokes on subnets. It doesn't know which to use.

My config:

cable modem -> switch -> machines

The iMac is the router running OSX and a custom natd/ipfw script.

The System Preferences report the external IP address (255.255.255.0 subnet), and the script initialises the internal one (255.255.255.128).

Rendezvous services do not work for the router to any other machien on the 128 (internal) subnet. I've yet to try it any other way.

I'm currently altering my network configuration, and I'll be able to test the theory out then.

I'm still playing around.

I'm gonna set up a 5500 as my router later on tonight or tomorrow, and then put the iMac on just one subnet, the internal one, and see how it reacts.

Okay, taking the router down and switching subnets in about 10 mins. I'll post the results when I'm back online (could be a while).

Will be posting the results in here:
