Is there any way i can configure OS X to ask for my user password when i wake up from sleep? There's alot of sensitive info on it that i really don't want people getting their hands on, and i put it to sleep alot more than i use the screensaver (it being a laptop and all...)

so... yeah.

Workaround:
Turn on screensaver, THEN put it to sleep.

Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access

Select View and then "show status in menu bar"

Click on padlock in menubar to lock the screen. Not perfect, but something to look into.
I can hear the goose-steps getting closer.

That's what i use in my PB before closing the lid, when i want to prevent people from using it.
I think it's a nice feature of the "keychain".

I have been using Sleeplock for a few months now with my powerbook
This kind of thing is very improtant for basic privacy if you use a laptop [you would think that mac os x would have something figured out on its own]
I would give it 4 stars out of 5
Advice though - I have had complete [screen saver] system freezes if the screen saver time-activates before I close my powerbook
Because of this I set screen saver activation to 'never' so it doesn't come on on its own and use the keychain 'lock screen' menu if i want it on [hot corners can be a nuisance]

[have been using from 10.2 to 10.2.3]

I have the screensave set up for immediate activation when the cursor is in the lower left corner. I just throw it down there before I close the lid. It couldn't be simpler.
