I'm trying to set up my 10.2.4 box as a ftp server. I have a linksys router and have set up port forwarding via 21 & 20 to the IP address of the aforementioned box. I have the FTP server turned on.
I'm under the impression that I should be able to connect to the home folder of any user using the username/password set up in the Accounts PrefsPane. But I cannot seem to connect at all.
Any ideas?

I had this problem a while back with my Linksys router and someone mentioned to me that it's not sufficient to forward only ports 20 and 21. You need to forward the range 20-25 and also 5000-7000. Apparently there are some ports in the 5000-7000 range that FTP servers use, I'm not sure exactly which ones, but I know forwarding that entire range makes it work perfectly.
Give that a shot, I hope it works..

I've been trying to figure out what ports to forward too other than 20-21. Anyone know the exact ports to forward with an Apple Base Station? I can't forward entire ranges in the admin utility only exact ports.

Opening ports 5000-700 as mentioned is a HUGE security hole and is NOT necessary for FTP.
Ports 20 and 21 are the only ports needed.
The problem you're encountering is active FTP. Active ftp does use random, dynamic ports for data connections (file transfers, directory listings, etc.)
Enable passive FTP on your ftp client and you'll be able to get through firewalls, etc.
Alternatively, for greater security, enable SSH (remote login) and use scp which uses encryption to secure the file transfer (ftp is unencrypted and sends login info (username and password) in plain text.
