I was downloading something (Konfabulator), and it was goign really slow, so I decided to cancel it, and try again later. Whn I went to cancel it, it crashed Safari. No biggie, I tried to relaunch and it keeps unexpectedly quitting.
So I deleted the Downloads.plist file, and it still crashed. So I deleted anythign with th eword safari in it, and downloaded a new version. I still crashes. So I deleted the safari ape, and Safari Enhancer, but it still crashes. What did I miss?
I am posting this in Chimera, and boy are things different. I can't do spell check (control click on a word I know is wrong to get suggestd spellings), and its just not the same. I want my Safari back

Just re-download it from www.apple.com/safari
Your bookmarks and settings will stay
intact, as they are stored in your ~/Library
folder.

Not everything that belongs to Safari has the word 'safari' in it. Here's all of Safari's files:
Safari.app
~/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/
~/Library/Caches/Safari/
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.WebKit/
~/Library/Safari/
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

I'm saying if you download
a new copy, and just replace the
app, your settings will be intact.

Well, I just deleted all of those, and still no go
I have redownladoed Safari now, as well, 3 times and it still crash on startup. I tried restarting and no go either. I am going to try creating a new user and running Safari and see if it will launch. That shoudl give me a bit more info hopefully.

Some persistent crashes like this can be cured by doing a general cache clear-out. Using the Terminal or one of the 3rd-party utilities like Cache-Out X, get rid of:
~/Library/Caches
/Library/Caches
and even
/System/Library/Caches
and then reboot.

I'm not an expert, but it looks like a web certificate problem. What's your home page? Does it require log-in?
Maybe try changing your home page in System Preferences > Internet.

Well, to let you guys know, I solved my problem. Turns out there was a bug in PithHelmet that caused Safari to crash on launch in the 0.4 release. 0.4.1 fixed this.

Thanks for the suggestion..unfortunately still no go. As far as the certificates go...I didn't have a home page set-up in the internet control panel and I have IE as my primary browser.
any other ideas?
thanks
Mark

Boy I tell ya. That pithHelmet seems to be a source of consternation. I installed it to check it out, and it worked as adveryised. then I decided to uninstall it cuz I noticed that I didnt have ANY images. I deleted everything, reinstalled Safari, cleared out my web cache restarted, logged out...jeez I tried everything. STILL no images at all in safari. I contacted the author, and to his credit, he replied really quickly. he told me to do just exactly what Ive already done, and he said that if that didnt fix it to send him a console log. The trouble is, that after deleting everything, there arent any entries pertaining to pithHelmet or Safari. I guess I'll try that Cache-Out X thingy...Anyone else have this issue?
btw. all my other browsers show images just fine.

Just to let you know you are not alone, my Safari just started doing this also. My clock also started acting weird. I have tried many things and they do not work.
i have a few more things to try and will report back with the results.

Maybe you could try deleting your keychain, or just open it with the Keychain manager in case it find damage and can repair it. (Keep a copy in case it's not that)
Technical: This looks like a invalid string pointer being passed to strlen function. By looking at the trace, it seems the invalid string may have been initialized using the keychain. Of course it's still a bug not to check for validity at some point.
