Apparently the forums farted when I posted before...so here goes again.

Howdy all...I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything, so here goes...I have a folder full of .avi files (Airwolf previews...don't ask) that I have set to open with vlc when double clicked...the icon shows the pylon and everything. Quicktime, of course, still tries to preview them whenever I click on them, and since that never works, it gets annoying quickly. Generally speaking, the Finder pauses for ~15 seconds and then Quicktime either tells me it doesn't have the plugin to display the movie (if I don't have an avi plugin installed) or displays a movie without sound (if I do). So, is there any way to selectively turn off .avu file previewing? Or maybe even previewing for movies as a whole?

Wth a Finder window open and active, go to the menu bar and select the view menu.

On the bottom click "show view options"

A window will appear with an option to disable the preview pane.

Note that you must have a finder window active for the window to appear with these options.

OR

stay out of column view all together.

Yup, I was aware that I could do that. I guess I should have specified that my question pertained more to turning .avi previewing off while keeping .mp3 previewing (which I use quite often) on. Maybe a hidden pref I can set in a pref file somewhere? I'm guessing the answer is no but I've been pleasantly surprised before.

Thanks for the reply, though.

If you are navigating thru movies, just switch to list view. That's really the only option I see.

I was just looking for a solution to this problem and found none.. just wondering if anyone has an answer to this one yet? Does anyone know what files hold the preferences for the preview feature of x?

Thanks much

Well you could install the Quicktime DivX codec (I assume they are DivX) with AVI import fix from DivX.com and be able to preview them in the Finder and watch from QT player.

Oops, resurrected thread.

Good suggestion.. strangely I do have that codec installed and I still get the hang. Have other people experienced this?

Thanks for the reply

I am stupid... I thought you were talking about that 3vix plugin for quicktime... I just installed the divx software... it works great. Good call... thanks for the help.
