I've had it with Software Update, at the moment I'm on a 56k connection, and guess what, I hate it. As soon as DSL is in my area its coming to my house, I even have a router ready to rock. Anywho, twice now I have tried to download the 10.2.3 update via Software Update, and twice has it failed. Currently, I'm on my third attempt, and its stuck at the end. But this time I decided to look in SU's caches. And guess what?

I found a file called MacOSXCombo10.2.3.tar amongst about 10 folders. Its currently a 123.9mb. I thought the update was 60.9mb!

Anyway, its still growing even though the bar has stopped at the end. Could anyone do me a favour, go into...

Library -> Caches -> com.apple.SoftwareUpdate

There should be a few folders, depending on how many downloads you have done with SU. If you can, click one, It should start with a960.g.akamai.net or something like that. Click the folder and another folder should come up and so forth, just keep clicking the folders till you get to a file. Can you tell me what size if you have it the MacOSXCombo10.2.3.tar file is?

Thanks

Oliver

These caches are automatically emptied after use (although the folders stay around). So anyone who has completed the update will give you the answer: 0 bytes.

Sorry.

I didnt check what your asking for. But SU sometimes do get wonky. Have you tried downloading the standalone updater instead. I almost always wait for those, rather than use SU to get updaters.

You are probably better off on a file of that size to download it somewhere that has fast speeds and simply burn a copy for yourself, it's not worth the hassle of waiting for it via Dial-up IMHO.

However, you may as well just wait for 10.2.4 so you don't do it all over again and just get the combined update.

Get a copy of igetter or another download client that has the resume feature.

Then you have to goto Apple's support page and find the 10.2.3 download.

If anything goes wrong you can resume the download later unlike with apples software update application.

Good Luck!!!
