I have just tried to install Acrobat reader 5.1 and get this when I try to launch it:
**Application launch failure
The application 'acrobat reader' could not be launched because of a shared library error:"8<Acrobat Reader 5.0><Acrobat Reader 5.0><AGMCarbonLib><>**
Can anyone get me past this, please.
That library is in a temp folder in /usr I believe...
I have reinstalled several times.
OSX 10.2.3
PS HowTF do I include an image in a posting to these boards? "Help" makes no sense to me...
Thanks
Simon

inserting an image is shown under your post. click the Image button for easiness.
and try quitting any browser, loggin out, and thereafter fixing your permissions with the disk utility

Oh, and please, could you stop using URGENT in capitals in your title. We all know if someone posts something here he does like to have answers ASAP, and in my opinion adding capitals 'URGENT' only makes it less URGENT for people to read the thread.
But I may be wrong...

Jerommeke,
Nothing *at all* happens when I hit the 'image' button. 'Help' is not helpful unless it's trying to tell me that the image has to be online, on a server somewhere.
This would make sense I guess, would mean that Macnn wouldn't have to store the image...

Jerommeke,
If you knew how urgent it was that I get this pdf to this particular person...

Ok, it's your own choice, but most people decide whether a thread is urgent to them on other grounds then the title.
Excuse me, I thought the Image button would work. You can insert images by typing <img> http://url.to.the.file/and/directory/picture.jpg</img>
but instead of using < and >, use [ and ]

That library is inside the package of Acrobat Reader (Contents/MacOS). If it's not inside there on your machine, try reinstalling.
You can also try from another user and see if it works then (then it it's likley a corrupted preference file).

I got this same error once. Deleting Acrobat Reader's preferences solved it. Try deleting:
~/Library/Preferences/Acrobat Reader 5.1 Prefs.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Acrobat WebCapture Cookies
~/Library/Preferences/Acrobat WebCapture Prefs

I am curious, why do you need Acrobat Reader when you have Preview? It reads PDF's natively and I haven't used AR since moving to OS X.
I have even created PDF's from MS Office docs with preview. I know my use of PDF's is basic, but I have had zero problems.
As to not being able to post images, I can't use any of the buttons to post links, images or styles. Maybe a Safari issue?

Art,
Thanks for that. It launched suddenly, don't know what I did.
If it happens again I'll know what to do. I had in fact deleted the reader prefs but not the other two.
Thanks

BTP,
I actually don't use AR as I prefer Preview but the guy I sent the Preview generated doc to couldn't open it and sure enough, neither could I, using AR.
Thanks again for the offer of help.

I think it's a forum issue. They don't work in any browser I've tried (IE, Chimera, Safari).
