I'm typing this message from my desktop, but my laptop has just frozen up. I'm in the process of downloading a large file that I would rather not have to do again. I can't move the pointer, so I can't tell if the download is continuing (last time i checked, there was about an hour left until it finished). Should I just wait another hour? Or is there a way of moving the Finder window that is now blocking the progress bar?

How were you downloading it? With what program?

You should SSH to your laptop and run "top" to see if the application in question is still active. If remote login is on and you can't SSH, then you're box is probably frozen to the point that every process stopped. That means your download is stopped too.

It's possible to use CURL to pick up where Safari (or whatever was doing the downloading) left off. Read up on the man page for "curl" and look for the "-C" flag.

Xeo,

Thanks for the help, but it didn't even sound like English!

I ended up just restarting the machine, since none of Apple's suggestions helped.

My Weatherpop icon hadn't changed temperature in quite some time, so I assumed all processes had stopped.
