This is something I have always wondered about.

Why is save as pdf found in the print menu instead of convert to or save as pdf in another location?

While I love how easy and how native the pdf process is now in OS X, I just find it odd that this is done in this way. A lot of OS X users I talk to don't even know you can make anything into a pdf.

Any application is free to add a "Save as PDF" or make PDF available as format in the save dialog. From within printing is just how the system can deliver the functionaliy without the application explicitly supporting it.

Unfortunately "print to PFD" doesn't always work as it should. For instance in the R it totally screws up the graphs.

my guess: something to do with Adobe's licensing of .pdf to Apple.

It's much easier to save as .pdf in Jaguar than it was in 10.1, but I think Adobe would object to it being a standard File menu command...

You don't even bother to read other people's posts, do you?
