Here's the quick view. If you have an OSX machine with 2 drives, aliases or symbolic links between the drives don't work when logged in via AppleTalk.
Here are the details. We have a G4-733 tower with two drives, running OSX 10.2.3. The startup disk is a lot smaller than the second drive. I have created non-admin users for all the lab members on the primary drive and that's working great. What I want to do--and has been causing me fits--is to have most of their files on the second disk. What I did is create a folder on the second disk called chris_files, then sym-linked it back to my "Home" directory on the first disk. This setup works fine if I'm logged into the machine physically. However, if I log in via AppleTalk, then select my folder, the symlink to the second drive is dead. I've tried ln-s and dragging the links in the finder. The ln -s links just look like blank aliases, while the finder links show up as aliased folders, but when you click on it, it says the volume can't be found, when you insert it, it will become available. So what's happening is I can't follow any type of symlink to the second drive if I connect via AT.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have this huge second drive that is sitting there useless.
