The manual says to put it in /Users/username/bin, but I don't have a /bin in my home folder. The instructions say to go to a directory that is currently on the path and type:

ln -s $MATLAB/bin/matlab

where $MATLAB is the full path to the matlab application.

thanks,
kman

If you put it in /Users/me/bin then make sure that you add that to your Path in you .cshrc. Depending upon how Mathlab launches, you may need to add it globally.

I can't imagine that you'd want to put it there though. Realize that this is your private bin and other users can't see it typically. I suspect this is a typo. Putting it in /usr/bin seems much more intelligent.

Is there not a /Users/me/bin directory by default?

How do I go about putting it in /usr/bin. The app is installed in the Applications folder. Do I make a symbolic link or something?

While we're at it, can someone explain symbolic links to me? They seem quite similar to normal aliases, but somehow different. I had to create one to repair a printing problem after installing the orginal Safari, but didn't really understand what was going on.

thanks,
kman
