I just got a new LCD monitor that supports 1280 * 1024 screen res. The only problem is that OSX won't go that high even though I'm sure my 32MB radeon can handle it. At least ATI's site says it can do that screen res.

Any ideas?

What LCD monitor did you get?

Take a look at the Displays prefpane and uncheck "Show modes recommended by display." The list should now include all resolutions supported by your video card although not all may work with your monitor.

The monitor is a Daytek MV170. I did uncheck the box on displays pref pane and all it did was enable 640*480. The page I found on ATIs site listed a max screen res of something like 1600 * x.

Its the straight "Mac Radeon" 32MB. No new firmware but I think the problem is an issue with OSX auto detecting displays. I'm going to try turn off the tower, unplug the screen, then restart. I'm hoping that'll work since a straight restart didn't do it.

That fixed it. The screen is up to it's preferred res now. I think I'll go update to 10.2.4 and hope that improves things.
