Someone member here just installed 10.2.4 (no names) and it killed the system. Turns out it was blogger and you have to put the old/un-hacked CoreGraphics file back before you update.

Sure it could have been a freak case but be warned cuz his system wouldn't even boot. It took an hour to get things running again.

Peace out.

I am sure Unsanity is laughing at this...

Mighty Mouse 1.0 should have just received another $10 after reading this from this guy.

Who would ever do such a thing

Yeah it was me, Installed the 10.2.4 update and wanted my spinny dealy to be back the way I had it since the update changed it. Ran the program, rebooted, and Ta-da! BSOD!

So I go into my CD booklet, my Jag disks aren't there, oh yeah I let my sister borrow them since "I won't be needing those anytime soon."

Make a long story short this guy here was the only fellow Mac head online and on my buddy list (had to use my roomies ME Dell <shudder>) and he gave me a nice fresh and uncorrupted CoreGraphics file and biggity bam, it worked.

God, do not use this program!

I used blobber before my update and had no problems installing 10.2.4 on my PB. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll restore my cursor on my desktop before upgrading.

I'm kinda new to macs and I have this problem after trying to change my pinwheel. It would big time help if you could tell me in detail how you were able to fix your computer. I'm on an iBook running only OS 10.2.4. I have my Jag CD in hand.
TIA!

Read the blobber instructions on how to restore your old CorGraphics when you start up in single user mode.

dude, if his system is screwed maybe he can't get to the read me file, why not just use a little copy & paste to help a brother out...

Emergency Restore
If for some reason Blobber messes up you can use this method to restore your system. I hope you backed up your CoreGraphics file as I instructed. If you didn't this will not work.
Boot up your system holding Command (Apple) + S. This will boot you into Single User Mode, a terminal only version of MacOS X.
Once it is completely loaded type /sbin/mount -uw /
Now type the following:
cp /Applications/Blobber/backup/CoreGraphics.bak /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/Coregraphics
Press enter/return to verify the file replacement. Now type "reboot" and press enter/return.
Everything should be back to normal.
You may want to print this section in case of an emergency.
You can also boot into OS 9 and move this file manually.

I didn't backup my CoreGraphics file as instructed. What do I do now?
There are two options. One is to reinstall Jaguar. The second is to get an unmodified CoreGraphics file. You can use Pacifist (search www.versiontracker.com) to extract it from the Jaguar installer. Place the file in the "Blobber/backup" folder and name it "CoreGraphics.bak". You can then use Blobber's restore feature or use the Emergency restore method above (and via terminal).

As a matter of course I 'un-hack' my OS before doing any updating, It just makes sence.
re-apply Aqua, re-set the pin wheel, put all the settings in TinkerTool back to the defaults, I thought anybody smart enough to do these hacks, would have realised this.

maybe a dumb question, but is it safe for us wankers to reapply the blobber hack after updating?

i reset the default before updating, but have been too chicken to try it again.

signed, a chicken wanker.

hi,
developer of Blobber here. sorry for it causing problems for some.
i too am curious whether it will work with 10.2.4. ive heard some people say yes. iver heard some people say no.
all i get are complaints. never get things like "hey, great job" or anything like that. so its hard to gauge how well the software works.
i only have one Mac right now. i can't afford for it to have any downtime at all.

has anyone gotten Blobber to work under 10.2.4? did you use an old CoreGraphics file (<=10.2.3) or did you use 10.2.4's CoreGraphics file?

i just tested Blobber with 10.2.4. it works fine. make sure to backup your 10.2.4 coregraphics file.
i think people were not doing that and were using the old 10.2.3 file. i dont know how, but its all i can think of.
anyway, tested it. works fine.
for further reference print out the read me so you can have the emergency instructions.

i updated 2 "blobbed" machines with 10.2.4 and had no problems at all. of course i had to reapply the custom cursor, but even that worked like a charm.

thanks dr. zoidberg. wish more people sent me success stories. all i seem to hear from is people with bad experiences...which are thankfully few and far between.
blobber maybe free, but i like to hear from happy people every now and then too.
glad its working.

I don't use your blogger program and fully understand about only hearing bad news when developing software.
But why do you need to use a modified CoreGraphics system file?
