I installed Apple's X11 (0.2, and overwrote the prefs.)
I then compiled and installed KDE 3.1 via fink.
put "/sw/bin/startkde &" as the only line in my ~/.xinitrc
Now, I would expect that this would bypass quatrz-wm completely and use KDE's default wm. I wouldn't be able to dock things and it would look like OS X at all - but I was futzing around and really didn't care.
What I found was that the KDE theme was applied to it's window as usual. KDE controlled the colors, appearance, etc. But, it seemed that quartz-wm was still active and every window - regardless of applied theme - had an aqua menu bar and would minimize into the dock.
Just to be sure, I rebooted and received the same results.
I kinda like this behaviour, as it's very convenient (with the dock and all)... but I'm totally confused about why this is happening.
Any guesses?
