Not getting any bites in the networking area, so:
I talked to the IT guys for my school and they said that the school's servers don't support Airport networking of an iBook mobile lab of 20 iBooks, but they are installing "Cisco AeroPorts" which are 802.11b compliant in the ceilings this summer.
My questions is this: is it true that Cisco networks using a static server with manually doled out IP addresses will not support Airport? Could I use the computer-to-computer network option from one connected iBook or iMac to another? Could we purchase extra WAPs to ensure a static loaction and use those instead of a room to room moving airport base station?

The district I work for <retarded> decided to move to PCs for cost reasons </retarded>. We are a small high school within the largest district in the state and we have a small pro-Mac staff with myself and my principal being very pro-Mac and extremely anti-PC. Please help us get through Mac ignornace amongst the district's IT staff! Thanks in advance...

802.11 is an open standard. I can't think of a single reason why there would be a problem connecting.

Don't support Airport networking? Maybe there is some miswording, but as you stated this, no that jsut doesn't seem correct at all. If they were talking about Appletalk, I could see that, but I don't think that is what anyone meant.

I think youa re asking if the iBooks and the iMacs can connect to other 802.11 AP's, like the Cisco AreoPort. I would need to have someone give me a reason why not.

Try this for fun: ask them if you can connect you wireless PC laptop to the AeroPort. I'll bet they'll say yes. In my experience, many IT people don't know Macs and they speak without knowing.

Bottom line, I don't see a reason why you would have any probelms connecting.
