To remove OS 9, simply drag the System Folder to the trash and empty trash.

If you want to be really nuts about it, you can log in as root and delete the Classic Prefs pane, too.

You can also thrash the 'Applications (Mac OS 9)' and the 'Documents' (containing a few standard notes etc.) folders on the root of the hard disk.

It is completely safe

There would probably still remain a few small invisible OS 9 files, but they won't do any harm.

I don't see the big deal about having 9 on your drive, it's not like we need the space with the size of the new drives.

It just allows you to run some older application, like some older installer. I've had to first install an older version of a program so that I could upgrade to the new version more then once.

Then there was the time that someone sent me a bunch of Paperport documents that nothing will open except the Paperport viewer that is only made for 9.

I did move my System 9 folder into my Applications (Mac OS 9) folder and then moved that folder into my Applications folder so that the root of my drive would be neat.

unless you really need the hard drive space that os 9 is using, why not just leave it there? sure, you don't need it now, but maybe 6 months from now something will creep up.... if nothing does and later on you need the space, then sure, go ahead and delete as described above.....
