I've been experiencing a strange problem that I've never before had on OS X until 2 weeks ago.
All of a sudden, my screen freezes. It's like the window manager freezes, but I can't tell. Nothing responds. I thought that it happened after I installed Safari, but I can't be sure.
I have a Canon LiDE 30 (I don't use it all the time), a B/W G3 400 with an installed RADEON 7000 Mac, and a 512 MB of RAM. All of these components have been installed for over a year with no problems.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Is it software or hardware, do you think.
I'm trying to run through all the tests that I can think of, and I'm coming up short.
(I suppose I could have a RAM breakdown... Had one of those on another machine, and the results were similar. Any way to test the RAM in OS X?)
If you post ideas, I'll run through them and report the results, though it may take some time.
So far tried:
* PRAM zapped. Result: nothing but zapped PRAM.
* Prefs have been trashed. Nothing.
* Fresh wipe and install. Not willing to try that yet, as it would take some additional time.
* Full disk check using Disk Utility & Diskwarrior. Nothing found (this time).
* Nothing shows up in the console logs, so I can't track it from there. I haven't tried SSHing in from another compuer yet (haven't had it available so far.)
Any other ideas?
