I just had the strangest thing happen this morning. Here's my situation:
We have a G4 connected by LAN port to an Airport Extreme. We have an iBook connected via Airport. My wife and I each have accounts on both computer. My wife's account shortnames are the same on both computers. Mine are different. I am the administrator on both computers. My wife does not have Admin access on either. I can access the G4 using AFP normally from the iBook. Here's the weird part:
My wife wanted to use the iBook this morning, but she wanted to work with files on the G4. I logged her in and used Connect to... to access the G4 via AFP. I logged her in using her G4 account and pass and then selected her home directory as the volume to mount. When the volume shows up on the iBook it's name is my shortname from a computer at work that I routinely access from my iBook via AFP and X11 (always using ssh -X, of course). HOWEVER, the volume was really my wife's home folder on the G4, even though it had the wrong name.
What's going on here?! Does this have something to do with incorrect user IDs on one of the machines? Why is it using my shortname from a computer that isn't even connected at the time? Does it have something to do with ssh?
I'm really worried I have a serious problem here.
thanks,
