HELP!!

I've just lost the use of the desktop. All icons have vanished, and clicking on the desktop give the all familiar OS X error beep. I can click on the finder in the dock, and a new finder window opens. From there I can navigate to my desktop and launch files as before. IE still saves files to the desktop, but I cannot access it directly. I've reinstalled 10.2.4 but that did not help.

Any suggestions?

I suppose this could be Finder prefs problem. One good way to tell would be to log in as a different user and see if that user can use the desktop. If so, go back to the account with desktop trouble and try deleting:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
