when I open Finder, is ther a way to sort your folders to the top and then all other files after that? I know Windows does this by default, but OSX seems to sort alpha. This drives me crazy...lol

can't put the folders on the top (at least I don't think you can). but if you sort it by kind all of your folders are grouped together.

a newbie replying to a newbie, is this like the blind leading the blind?
i was thinking this myself, being a windows user before this. i figured out the sort by kind option and then all the folders are at the bottom.
at first i thought this was pretty dumb, but then it dawned on me that it is really cool, since most programs are just that one little icon. and they are at the top, less scrolling.
it makes perfect sense to me

Personally, I can't stand the way Windows sorts. I also can't stand how new folders or files go to the bottom of the list until the window is refreshed.

First - yes the sort by kind thing is the way to get all the folders sorted together.
HOWEVER
they need not all be at the bottom - you can click on the column heading to change the sort order (the little arrow indicates which direction things are sorted in).
So, if you want, you can have your folders sorted at the top of the window.

what cpac said
Also you might try Pathfinder which has a 'smart sort order', and the order is configurable in the preferences.
