My beloved ibook is at Apple repair so I am using my imac at home. My screen shows me as logged in to ichat. I have checked the preferences and account and everything is correct but buddy status is incorrect and my buddies cannot see me. Any suggestions as to how to figure this out? It was working a few weeks ago from this computer but I haven't tried until now. I am on OS10.2.3 and using an airport base station with another mac and my laptop when it is here. Any other info needed?

...wait until ichat 2. It sucks too much to use right now. I like the idea and all, but the program acts too much like a beta for me to use.

I have been using ichat on my ibook for quite a while with no problems at all. Just trying to figure out what is happening. Thanks for the opinion anyway!

Are you logged in, perhaps, using a different screen name? For example, maybe your friends are looking for your AIM name, but you're logged in under your .Mac name. Check the iChat prefs.

What AIM client are your buddies using? They have to have a fairly recent version of the windows client in order to see .Mac screen names, e.g. so that could be your problem.
Also, if you set up some firewalls with your recent network configuration you might be blocking some important ports...

Both Aim and .mac screen name are the same and ALL my buddies could see me last week. None of us has changed anything this week except that I am using a different computer and all the preferences are the same.
OOPs! I just realized I downloaded OS 10.2.4 the night before on this machine. Did that do it?

.mac and aim screen names cannot be the same. The .mac one has a trailing @mac.com.

ichat working now. Actually my Aim and .mac screen names are the same and it all works now. I just trashed all the preferences and started over with help from Apple tech. Can communicate with the world now. And my beloved ibook is stranded at a snowed in airport!
